DRM L.I.F.E. Recovery Program

L.I.F.E Recovery Program The Downtown Rescue Mission's biblically-based 12-month Residential Recovery Program is designed to help men and women achieve life-long change and freedom from problems, such as alcoholism and drug addiction, as well as emotional, mental and physical abuse. The program seeks to restore individuals through teaching and modeling solid, biblical principles and truths in which they can rebuild their lives. During the Program, individuals 18 and older are provided shelter, meals, and clothing at no charge, and they receive Christian counseling, learn how to heal from past wounds and develop healthy ways of coping. They also get the chance to study the Bible and participate in various educational programs to improve employment skills, where they are equipped with life skills, such as computer navigation, resume writing, and money management. Our Residential Recovery Program is called L.I.F.E. This is an acronym which stands for; Learn about Christ, have an Intimate Relationship with Christ, Follow Christ, and become an Example of Christ. We believe that individuals must first know about Christ through the constant preaching of the gospel, fall in love with the Savior, and then obey Him through this love. For more information on our recovery program, please contact Mickey Counter, Director of Men's Programs, (256) 536-2441, ext. 353, or Cara Holmes, Director of Women's Program, (256) 536-2441, ext. 304.

Family Counseling

Family counseling is often sought due to a life changing event or stress that is negatively affecting one or many areas within the family; and may include family structure (rules and roles) as well as communication. Family counseling can include a variety of forms and might involve a combination of parents, children, siblings, step-parents and step-siblings. Common issues addressed in family counseling are grief and loss of a family member, addition of a new family member, a major move and a variety of other general changes that affect the family system. Family relationships can be some of the most dynamic and challenging relationships we have and also be the most rewarding and long-lasting relationships of our lifetime. Our licensed professional staff will work with your family to improve the way the members of your family communicate with each other and work to ensure each member is being heard and valued. The ultimate goal for family counseling is to build healthier family relationships for a harmonious family life.

Homicide Survivor's Program (HSP)

The Homicide Survivors Program (HSP) supports families and friends who have lost loved ones to murder or vehicular homicide. HSP's mission is to identify survivors in need of practical intervention and support following the murder of a loved one and to provide emotional and grief support. We also provide victims' advocacy and assist survivors as they navigate through the criminal justice system. Grief doesn't just go away with time, you have to work through it. One way to accomplish this is to connect with a person or group with whom you can talk freely and share your experience. We provide support groups that will connect you with those who understand what you are experiencing through all stages of the grief process. Additionally, our qualified staff are available to provide individual and family grief counseling, listen and assist you with specific questions you may have, and provide you with helpful resources and assist you with victim's compensation if available to you.

SUBSTANCE ABUSE

We begin this process with a mental health assessment, that leads with a strength-based inventory and an evidence based mental status evaluation. This assessment focuses on the identification of strengths and weaknesses; the identification of familial, criminal and substance use history. The instrument provides the counselor and case manager with the opportunity to identify gaps in services and management of those resources deemed necessary as most beneficial for the individual. In turn, this process offers the individual a structured treatment plan and process and coordinated support through individual counseling and group sessions. Assessments: call for scheduling

Substance Abuse

Has your alcohol and/or drug use impacted your life through the loss of family, friends, employment and health? Have you gotten into legal trouble due to past decisions? Approximately 10% of Americans currently struggle with substance abuse. Even "occasional" use can quickly escalate into dependency, and it can be very difficult to break free once this cycle has begun. Participants in our program may voluntarily seek help with our services, while others are oftentimes involved in diversion programs that required attendance in group sessions in order to meet the requirements of the court in relation to their specific violation /offense. Upon successful completion of the program, defendants may be eligible to have their case dismissed by the District Attorney's Office. Services are provided by a Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor (ADC)
