If a person with a cognitive challenge does not qualify for a nursing home or other state services, 305 8th Street offers a structured living arrangement that includes a bed, all of the household essentials, activities, transportation, and 24-hr supervised care to include medication prompting and financial management.

Our LIFT Housing Program provides low-cost, income-based, short-term, case-managed, scattered-site emergency shelter (apartment style) housing to literally homeless families unable to reside in a traditional shelter setting. In addition, we provide supportive services to help prepare families to move towards permanent affordable housing with the goal of achieving permanent housing by program's end. The program offers low-cost housing for verifiably homeless families with dependent children within the household, or those at imminent-risk of becoming homeless (as defined by federal guidelines).

The Arc of Madison County has provided residential services to persons served since 1998. Homes are located in the Huntsville area, providing a safe, comfortable living environment for the resident adults. Each resident has their own bedroom decorated to reflect his or her personality and interests to make it truly home. The goal of The Arc's residential services program is to assist each resident in reaching as optimal a level of independence as possible. The residential services program offers training in a home-based setting to adults with intellectual and physical disabilities. This training includes personal care, community education, independent living and communication skills, self direction and money management. Independent living skills and training are provided to help each persons served transition from a state residential institution or a family home to independent living in community settings. The residents become active members of the Huntsville community through community activities to various events and service projects to benefit others.

WellStone offers supportive housing, Medication/Observation/Meals (MOMs) apartments, and group homes for adults with a diagnosis of a severe mental illness (SMI). Individuals with a primary diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorders, Organic Mental Disorder, Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Substance Use Disorders will not be considered for admission due to the Alabama Department of Mental Health (ADMH) guidelines. WellStone's supportive housing and group homes are not able to accept referrals for persons who are not able to perform activities of daily living (ADL's) without assistance.
